Probably built in about 1614, this tunnel connected the moat with Saarbrücken's market well on the edge of the Schlossplatz, which can still be seen today in front of the Old Town Hall. It is presumed that a water pipe ran through it to irrigate a garden in the moat. When the moat was filled in it lost its usefulness.
