As guardian of her sons, Elisabeth of Lorraine (1395–1456) took on the regency after the death of her husband. As a translator, she contributed to shaping the culture, whilst as regent she influenced the politics of the county of Nassau-Saarbrücken. She translated a cycle of four chansons de geste, which tell fabulous stories from the time of Charlemagne and his descendants.
